'Like a League Two player' - Roy Keane slams Haaland after poor display against Arsenal

Roy Keane didn’t hold back in his assessment of Erling Haaland, likening the Norwegian forward’s performance against Arsenal to that of a League Two player.

Haaland, who faced heavy criticism from Keane, struggled to make an impact in Manchester City’s goalless draw against Arsenal, a match billed as a potential decider in the Premier League title race.

Despite his reputation as a prolific goalscorer, the former Borussia Dortmund striker had a tough outing, completing only seven passes and failing to register a shot on target.

Keane’s critique of Haaland was scathing, highlighting his overall gameplay as subpar in Sky Sports’ post-match analysis.

“The levels of his general play is so poor and not just today. I think laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be. In terms of in front of goal, he’s the best in the world.”

According to the Manchester United legend, Erling Haaland must elevate his game, as his overall performance was lacking.

“He’s almost like a League Two player, that’s how I look at him. His general play, it has to improve and it will do over the next few years.”

Pochettino leaves Chelsea after one season

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has departed the club by mutual consent after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino, 52, was appointed on July 1 and signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year.

Despite a challenging first half of the season, he managed to turn things around with a run of five consecutive wins, securing a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

Under his leadership, Chelsea also finished as runners-up in the Carabao Cup and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity,” Pochettino said.

“The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

Pochettino was Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in five years, following the dismissals of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. Frank Lampard stepped in as interim manager at the end of the 2022-23 season before Pochettino’s appointment.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season,” sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Coaches Jesús Pérez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jiménez, and Sebastiano Pochettino have also departed the club.

Man City win record fourth English title in a row as Foden scores twice in 3-1 win over West Ham

Phil Foden scored twice early on as Manchester City clinched an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title with a commanding 3-1 victory over West Ham.

Pep Guardiola’s dominant side showed little sign of last-day jitters, though a stunning goal from Mohammed Kudus just before halftime at the Etihad Stadium momentarily sparked hope for rivals Arsenal.

However, Rodri soon dashed those hopes by driving home City’s third goal, sealing their sixth league triumph in seven seasons under Guardiola’s inspirational leadership on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

The win ensured City remained out of reach for second-placed Arsenal, regardless of their result against Everton.

Arsenal had been relying on a favor from West Ham, who were already secured in ninth place and were playing their final match under David Moyes’ second tenure as manager.

With City demonstrating remarkable composure throughout the run-in, only the most optimistic Arsenal supporters believed they might falter.

City quickly put those hopes to rest, taking less than two minutes to assert their dominance and eliminate any doubts about the outcome.

With the sun shining and their player of the season Foden in scintillating form, City’s performance was nothing short of stylish.

Foden received a pass from Bernardo Silva on the right, cut inside, evaded a challenge from James Ward-Prowse, and unleashed a left-footed shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Phil Foden has been announced as the Premier League’s Player of the Year for his sensational performances, which have been instrumental in Manchester City’s pursuit of the Premier League title.

The England international has been pivotal for Pep Guardiola’s side throughout the season, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists, directly contributing to 25 goals in total.

Foden’s form has helped City edge towards a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.

City will secure the title if they beat West Ham on Sunday, amid a close battle with Arsenal throughout the campaign.

Foden said: “To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of.

“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.

“Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.
