Nigeria drops two places in FIFA’s latest ranking
Nigeria‘s national football team, the Super Eagles, experienced a slight setback in the latest FIFA ranking, dropping two places.
Despite this, the three-time African champions maintain a considerable lead over their West African rivals, Ghana.
In the February ranking, the Super Eagles were positioned 28th globally. However, after a series of mixed results during last month’s international break, including a 2-1 victory over Ghana and a subsequent 2-0 loss to Mali, Nigeria now sits at 30th in the world ranking.
Despite this drop, Nigeria’s position remains significantly higher than Ghana’s, who slipped one spot to 68th in the global ranking.
The Super Eagles also maintain a higher standing than Norway (47th), led by Erling Haaland, Egypt (37th) captained by Mohamed Salah, and Canada (49th), a co-host of the upcoming World Cup.
Nigeria’s position as the third-ranked team in Africa remains unchanged, trailing behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (17th). Egypt (37th), Cote d’Ivoire (38th), and Tunisia (41st) complete the top five African teams.
At the top of the global ranking, Argentina continues to hold the number one position, followed by France, Belgium, England, and Brazil.

FIFA Ranking: Nigeria soar to 28th ahead Ivory Coast after AFCON silver win
Nigeria has made a significant jump in the latest FIFA Ranking, now sitting ahead of AFCON champions Cote d’Ivoire and Erling Haaland’s Norway.
After their impressive showing at the AFCON 2023 tournament, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed 14 places in the FIFA World Ranking. They are now ranked 28th in the world and the third-best team in Africa.
Despite their heartbreaking 2-1 loss to host nation Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Nigeria’s performance earned them plenty of praise. Led by coach Jose Peseiro, the young Nigerian side impressed throughout the tournament, narrowly missing out on a fourth AFCON title.
This move from 42nd to 28th is the highest climb for the Super Eagles in 11 years, matching their position in May 2013. They now sit behind Morocco, who moved up one spot to 12th, and Senegal, who are ranked 17th after moving up three places.
