'Toxic man' - Supporter feels sorry for Portugal ahead of Euro 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo displayed a moment of frustration in a Saudi Super Cup match, where he pushed an opponent and appeared to gesture towards the referee.

This incident is not isolated, as Ronaldo has shown similar reactions in the past when faced with unfavorable situations in the Middle East.

This behavior has led to concerns among fans about Ronaldo’s temperament and its potential impact on Portugal’s performance in the upcoming Euro 2024.

Chuck Borowski tweeted: “And this is why I pity Portugal. They’ll have to take this passenger to Euros and play him every game or he throws a fit and maybe even punches someone. Toxic, toxic man. If they somehow win it while effectively being one man down, it’ll be as big as Greece 2004.”

In the past, Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has commended Cristiano Ronaldo for his contributions to the national team.

“I’ve worked with many, but what sets Cristiano apart is the need to always be prepared to be the best,” Martinez told RTVE. “A contagious hunger, but very difficult to achieve.”

Martinez consistently fielded Ronaldo during Portugal’s qualifying campaign, where he scored 10 goals in nine games against opponents like Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Bosnia, and Iceland.

Looking ahead to Euro 2024, Portugal’s group stage opponents include Turkey, Georgia, and Czechia. While these teams may not pose significant challenges, questions arise about Ronaldo’s role if Portugal advances.

Ronaldo was a key player when Portugal won Euro 2016, but at 39 years old, his form and behavior may be scrutinized this time around.

However, Ronaldo has a history of surpassing expectations and silencing critics.

Man City win record fourth English title in a row as Foden scores twice in 3-1 win over West Ham

Phil Foden scored twice early on as Manchester City clinched an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title with a commanding 3-1 victory over West Ham.

Pep Guardiola’s dominant side showed little sign of last-day jitters, though a stunning goal from Mohammed Kudus just before halftime at the Etihad Stadium momentarily sparked hope for rivals Arsenal.

However, Rodri soon dashed those hopes by driving home City’s third goal, sealing their sixth league triumph in seven seasons under Guardiola’s inspirational leadership on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

The win ensured City remained out of reach for second-placed Arsenal, regardless of their result against Everton.

Arsenal had been relying on a favor from West Ham, who were already secured in ninth place and were playing their final match under David Moyes’ second tenure as manager.

With City demonstrating remarkable composure throughout the run-in, only the most optimistic Arsenal supporters believed they might falter.

City quickly put those hopes to rest, taking less than two minutes to assert their dominance and eliminate any doubts about the outcome.

With the sun shining and their player of the season Foden in scintillating form, City’s performance was nothing short of stylish.

Foden received a pass from Bernardo Silva on the right, cut inside, evaded a challenge from James Ward-Prowse, and unleashed a left-footed shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Bayer Leverkusen complete UNBEATEN Bundesliga season under Xabi Alonso as they beat Augsburg 2-1

Bayer Leverkusen made history as the first team in the Bundesliga to complete a season unbeaten, following their 2-1 victory over Augsburg on Saturday. This win extended their impressive run to 51 games without defeat.

After securing their inaugural Bundesliga title in April, Leverkusen’s goals from Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich set them on the path to victory.

They are now eyeing a potential unbeaten treble with upcoming matches in the Europa League final against Atalanta and the German Cup final.

Leverkusen, managed by Xabi Alonso, took the lead 12 minutes into the match. Amine Adli capitalized on a mistake by Augsburg goalkeeper Tomas Koubek, gaining possession and passing to Boniface, who scored from close range.

Andrich increased Leverkusen’s advantage in the 27th minute, backheeling a rebound into the net.

Augsburg’s young talent, Mert Komor, scored a remarkable goal on his first start in the 62nd minute, but Leverkusen maintained their lead, securing the win ahead of what could be a historic week for the club.

BREAKING: Porto hit with one-year ban from European competitions & fined €1.5m

FC Porto has been fined €1.5 million by UEFA for “debts owed to other football clubs, employees, and/or social/fiscal authorities.” In addition to the financial penalty, Porto has received a suspended sentence of a one-year ban from European competitions.

This means that if Porto fails to meet UEFA’s financial requirements in the future, the ban could be enforced, preventing them from participating in European tournaments for a year.

The club statement:

The UEFA Financial Control Committee confirmed yesterday that FC Porto faces a fine of €1.5 million and a one-year suspension from UEFA European competitions during the 2025/26, 2026/27, and 2027/28 seasons. The club was formally notified of this sanction on April 19, 2024.

The Management of Futebol Clube do Porto clarifies to the Members that this sanction results from reckless and ineffective management by the previous administration of the Club and its Sports Society.

These actions led to non-compliance with UEFA’s financial fair play rules, including payment controls related to employees, the tax authority/social security, and football clubs. The severity of the sanction is due to repeated non-compliance with these rules and the communication of incorrect and incomplete information to UEFA.

Despite these challenges, the new elected Board will ensure strict adherence to all rules and regulations, including UEFA’s financial fair play standards. The Management will also investigate the reasons for the club incurring this sanction and determine the responsibilities of those involved in repeated non-compliances and omission of facts.
