Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, managed to catch a flight to AFCON shortly after his team’s match against Tottenham at Old Trafford, ensuring he arrived with less than a day to spare before Cameroon’s opening game in the tournament.
Onana made the decision to delay his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations so he could participate in Manchester United’s crucial Premier League fixture against Spurs, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper had a busy day on the field as he played a pivotal role in United’s performance, notably in front of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who was watching the team for the first time.
According to Mail Sport, Cameroon’s plan is to have Onana on the bench for their Group C match against Guinea, with his distant cousin Fabrice Ondoa expected to be the starting goalkeeper for that game.
Onana had previously missed Cameroon’s warm-up game against Zambia to play in Manchester United’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Wigan the previous week.
