Arsenal connect Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder over January move

Arsenal have opened conversations with Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Jesper Lindstrom over a potential move in January, claims German outlet BIld.

The Gunners specialists have reached his delegates to examine an exchange, yet just starting discussions have occurred up to this point.

The 22-year-old can play in either flank and as an attacking midfielder, matching the criteria of the attacking player Arsenal are reportedly looking for.

Lindstrom scored 5 goals and registered 9 assists in 39 appearances last season, including 4 assists in Frankfurt’s Europa League winning campaign.

The Gunners are still looking for a new attacking player after missing out on Pedro Neto’s signing in the summer.

Man Utd, Chelsea & Bayern explore Benjamin Sesko signing

Published

on

Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are among a cluster of Europe’s top clubs that are considering offers to RB Leipzig to sign Benjamin Sesko next summer, even before he has kicked a ball in the Bundesliga, 90min has learned.

Leipzig confirmed the signing of Sesko, who currently plays for RB Salzburg in Austria, in the summer transfer window, though the 19-year-old will only move at the start of next season. The Slovenian international will spend the remainder of the current campaign with the Austrian champions before making the step up to the top flight in Germany.

Sesko disappointed a number of the continent’s top sides with the decision to move to Leipzig, who managed to secure the deal for a cut price due to their relationship with Salzburg. The transfer was agreed for in the region of €24m – well below the market value for other clubs at the time.

United were among the main contenders to sign Sesko before that decision was made, and the club’s scouts are understood to be very impressed with the young striker.

Erik ten Hag’s need for a new centre forward remains apparent, but will escalate over the next year with Cristiano Ronaldo all but certain to leave Old Trafford in 2023. Sesko remains a long-term target for United but he is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Chelsea, who have recently signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, are also in the market for a long term striking option and see Sesko as a viable candidate. German champions Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have added the player to a list of potential targets to replace Robert Lewandowski in the long term, as reported by 90min DE.

It’s understood the European giants are considering offers for next summer to tempt Leipzig into selling even before he has played for them, as a deal may suit all parties. Sesko would immediately command a greater market value upon arriving at Leipzig – especially if he has a strong season at Salzburg before joining – and his market value will only continue to increase if he hits the ground running in the Bundesliga next season.

Conscious that Sesko is one of European football’s strongest attacking prospects, the logic of the interested parties would be to offer Leipzig a substantial increase on their initial investment – which could see them more than double their money straight away – rather than see his value skyrocket to unaffordable levels down the line.

Sesko could command a fee of up to €60m if sold on by Leipzig immediately, which would represent sound business for them and an opportunity for the buying party to save a fortune on future investment.

How Bayern Munich poached Jamal Musiala from Chelsea

Published

on

Bayern Munich technical director Marco Neppe has revealed that the club made the decision to do everything they could to sign the ‘spectacular’ Jamal Musiala after seeing him in action as a 15-year-old for an England junior team.

Although German-born, Musiala lived in England from the age of seven and was briefly in the youth setup at Southampton before joining Chelsea’s academy when he was eight.

Musiala was at Chelsea for eight years in total, going on to represent England at various age groups, but when Bayern came calling in 2019 he decided to head back to Germany. That ultimately also influenced his decision to choose the country of his birth at senior international level.

“It was an international tournament and Jamal was playing for the England under-16 national team,” Neppe told Sky Sport Germany, recalling his first time scouting Musiala.

“Honestly, I can hardly remember any result, but I can remember two players very clearly: Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala, who played together for England. They were spectacular.”

Neppe praised Musiala, now 19 and a key player for both Bayern and Germany, for his ‘incredible touch, skills and movement’, as well as his dribbling ability.

“We kept talking about the name Jamal Musiala in our scouting sessions. He was 15 years old then. It was difficult to get video footage. So it was all about live scouting. We immediately had the unanimous opinion that we would do everything we could to bring him to Bayern,” he continued.

The key factor in persuading Musiala to leave Chelsea in favour of joining Bayern was a meeting in London where Neppe was able to meet the player’s family.

“I had a very interesting meeting in London, was able to get to know his family and also had talks with him. I remember that very well because I was aware that at this point I was speaking to a 15-year-old who would not have much of a conversation,” the official revealed.

“Jamal was actually not very talkative, but his statements were so clear. It spoke for him and his ambitions. It gave me a good feeling about how he is and what ambitious path he wants to go.”

Sadio Mane ‘couldn’t believe’ winning Champions League with Liverpool

Sadio Mane remembers being in sheer disbelief when he won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019.

Mane and co went up against Tottenham in the final of the competition that year and won comfortably, beating their Premier League rivals 2-0.

While they entered the match as favourites, the 30-year-old says he couldn’t believe it when Divock Origi scored their second goal to seal the victory and still remembers the night vividly.

“I remember the second goal that Divock Origi scored very well. I was over the moon at that moment. I couldn’t believe it. I just thought back to my childhood, when I was watching the Champions League,” he told UEFA.com.

“I also took a lot of pleasure in watching the excitement surrounding the competition. I found myself playing a final and, more importantly, winning it. It was amazing – 2019 was an outstanding year. The celebrations, the club…

“You just had to be there to understand. I think over half a million people were out in the streets waiting for us to parade our trophy. It was just beautiful.”

After spending three more years at Anfield, Mane left for Bayern Munich this summer but says his former club will always hold a special place in his heart.

“Honestly, I will never forget my time there. I learned a lot – as a man and as a football player,” he stated.

“The supporters were amazing, the people from the city were amazing. It is a club that will stay in my heart forever.

“It is also a legendary club – they have won everything. And also, it is the club that had all the best Champions League nights.”
