Gabriel Jesus has voiced his frustration over limited playing time at Arsenal this season.
The Brazilian forward, who came on as a half-time substitute during Arsenal’s disappointing 1-0 Champions League loss to Inter Milan on Wednesday night, has only started five of Arsenal’s 16 games across all competitions this season.
His reduced role has seen him slip down the ranks at the Emirates, and it also led to his exclusion from Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay. However, Jesus remains determined to turn things around, as he shared with TNT Sports Brasil after the defeat at the San Siro:
“Like any player, I want more minutes,” he said. “I’m not one to cause issues at the club; instead, I’ll keep working hard in training and making the most of my opportunities during games. My focus is on proving myself daily and hoping things turn in my favor.”
He continued, “I’ve always said I want to improve, to give my best for Arsenal. Right now, things aren’t going the way I hoped, but I’m staying focused and doing my best to earn more playing time. Ultimately, it’s up to the coach to make that call.”
Despite his current struggles, Jesus remains confident in his abilities and committed to fighting for his spot at Arsenal. “I believe in my potential and know the competition here is tough, but I also know I can make a strong contribution,” he added.
Recently, Jesus attracted interest from his former club Palmeiras, who explored the possibility of bringing the 27-year-old back to South America. However, Arsenal quickly shut down the idea, reaffirming Jesus as an integral part of their immediate plans, though his long-term future in North London remains uncertain.
Palmeiras president Leila Pereira confirmed last month, “Gabriel Jesus is not coming. We reached out to Arsenal, and they made it clear: ‘Leila, there’s no possibility. We are not open to negotiating for the player.’ So, that discussion is closed.”
In 14 appearances this season, Jesus has netted just once—a goal that came in Arsenal’s recent Carabao Cup win over Preston, breaking a nine-month goal drought for the former Manchester City star.
