Barcelona scored four goals in a 13-minute second half span, highlighted by a Lionel Messi brace, to down Athletic Club 4-0 in the 2020/21 Copa del Rey Final on Saturday night at the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville.
It marks the 31st Copa del Rey title for the Catalan club and their first since the 2017/18 edition.
After a first half in which Athletic’s compact defence frustrated Messi and company, the Barcelona attack smashed the Basque side with goals from Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong before Messi’s brace.
Athletic Bilboa vs Barcelona highlight
Only shortly after they met in the Supercopa De Espana final, Athletic Club and Barcelona face each other again at Estadio de La Cartuja with silverware at stake on Saturday night.
The Copa del Rey final gives Ronald Koeman a chance to win his first title as Barcelona coach, and he will do so with the strongest possible line-up.
Gerard Pique has trained fully on Friday and looks to be fit to play, meaning that Koeman will only be without Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho and Neto through injury.
Coutinho has returned to Brazil to recover from a knee problem and is the only player not with the squad in Seville.
Koeman could leave Ousmane Dembele out of the side, with a back three selected and Griezmann getting the nod in attack.
Barcelona’s starting line-up: Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Sergino Dest, Oscar Mingueza, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba, Pedri, Sergi Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.
Athletic Club’s starting line-up: Simon, De Marcos, Yeray, Martinez, Balenziaga, Berenguer, Dani Garcia, Unai Lopez, Muniain, Inaki Williams, Raul Garcia.
