Austin Eguavoen Reacts to Reports on Tosin Adarabioyo's Super Eagles Switch

Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has addressed the growing speculation regarding Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo‘s potential switch from representing England to playing for Nigeria.

The 27-year-old, born in England to Nigerian parents, is eligible to play for either country but has yet to make a senior appearance for either national team.

Adarabioyo, who has previously represented England at youth levels, enjoyed an impressive season with Fulham before securing a summer transfer to Chelsea.

Despite his strong performances, he was not selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships, fueling speculation that he may reconsider his international future.

Rumors suggest that Adarabioyo could be open to representing the Super Eagles, where he might form a solid defensive partnership with William Troost-Ekong.

Eguavoen confirmed that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is closely monitoring the defender’s situation.

“I haven’t spoken with Tosin personally, but he’s a talented player,” Eguavoen told reporters. “He is one of the players we are keeping an eye on. Every Nigerian player across the world has the right to represent Nigeria, and that includes Tosin.”

With Nigeria preparing for a key double-header in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya, Eguavoen is focused on building a stronger squad as the Super Eagles aim for a successful campaign.

Adarabioyo’s potential switch would significantly boost Nigeria’s defensive lineup, enhancing the team’s chances of qualifying for AFCON and other major international tournaments.
