Barca ready to match Chelsea’s prepared bid for Kounde

Chelsea are prepared to table an official bid for Jules Kounde worth €55m, according to Gerard Romeo.

Barca’s offer will match what Chelsea offered Sevilla for the player. Now, unless Chelsea increases their offer, Kounde will join Barcelona in the coming days.

Sources say Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany and his Sevilla counterpart Monchi are currently locked in talks over the defender.

On Monday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that Barca will make more signings, particularly in their defence.

For a while, they had turned their attention towards other targets, but they have retrained their sights on the French ace after missing out on Nathan Ake. Recent reports indicated that the Blues were leading Barça in the race for the defender.

And now Thomas Tuchel’s side have taken their first step to sign the 23-year-old by lodging an opening bid. As per the report, Chelsea have offered €55 million, plus add-ons, which is still less than what Sevilla want for their prized asset.

In a fresh development regarding the future of Jules Kounde, Spanish journalist Samuel Silva has claimed that Chelsea have lodged an offer of €55 million, plus add-ons, for the French defender.

In response to the bid made by the Blues, Barcelona are also now expected to make a move to try and sign him.

The 23-year-old has sparked yet another tug of war between Barcelona and Chelsea, who duelled for the signing of Raphinha earlier this summer. While the Blaugrana may have prevailed in that particular battle, lightning might not strike twice.

Kounde has been on Chelsea’s radar since last summer and the Blues had failed with an approach for him. But the interest has continued into this window.

Both parties continue to negotiate over a transfer, and with Chelsea making their move, Barcelona are also now expected to follow up with an offer of their own.

Journalist Nathan Gissing has corroborated the news, claiming that Chelsea have made an offer in excess of €50 million for Kounde, while also confirming that Barcelona remain interested in the 23-year-old.

It has been claimed that Barça have already agreed personal terms with Kounde. If that is indeed the case, the Catalans might be able to pull off the signing, much like they did with Raphinha.

It remains to be seen how this story develops in the coming days as Kounde’s time at Sevilla nears an end.

Antonio Conte told he must improve Tottenham’s woeful record at Stamford Bridge

Jamie Carragher has cautioned Antonio Conte he should address Tottenham’s embarrassing record at Stamford Bridge assuming that they are to become serious Premier League competitors.

Assumptions are high for Spurs this season, with a solid completion last season to get Champions League football upheld by a bustling summer of move action. Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic are among those to have arrived in north London.

Conte’s side came from behind to beat Southampton 4-1 in their opening match of the season, and they face an early test of their credentials with a trip to face Chelsea on Sunday.

Tottenham have won just once at Stamford Bridge since the inaugural Premier League season in 1992. That came in 2018, when Dele Alli scored twice in a 3-1 win, and Conte was in the home dugout as Chelsea boss.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Carragher hit out at Spurs’ record at the ground, though he believes Conte could be the man to change it after the Italian led his side to draw at Anfield and victory away to Manchester City last season.

“I think we’ll see a lot of what Spurs are about today,” Carragher said.

“You’ve mentioned how many times they’ve won [at Stamford Bridge]. It’s embarrassing – two top teams, in London, to come here and only win once in the Premier League era.

“That’s what Antonio Conte has to change. If you look at the record last season against Liverpool and Manchester City, he got really big results.”

‘That is what they didn’t do’ – Erik explains what his boys failed to do at Brentford loss

'That is what they didn't do' - Erik explains what his boys failed to do at Brentford loss

Talking his disappointment at Manchester United’s 4-0 misfortune to Brentford this Saturday, Erik ten Hag said in his post-match interview: “Difficult for me and a surprise. The team has to take the responsibility and I feel sorry for the fans, we let them down.

“I asked them [the players] to play with belief and take responsibility, that is what they didn’t do.

“Only when we stick together we will overcome it — don’t get me wrong, the manager is the main responsibility and I take that but I have to give them belief and they have to get it by themselves.

“Mistakes are part of football, you have to keep going but you have [to] especially act — It [three subs at half-time] was about bringing fresh ones. I could have changed all eight others as well.”

Ten Hag has plainly not kept down in his evaluation and United just have themselves to fault for this wreck.

The Red Devils are currently winless in their first two Premier League games, having conceded six goals as of now.
