Atletico Madrid has reportedly joined the race to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. The Spanish club is set to compete with Barcelona for the winger’s signature. Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe in La Liga, where he has scored five goals and provided four assists across all competitions this season.
His impressive form has attracted interest from several Spanish clubs, with Atletico Madrid being the latest to express interest. Marca, via Estadio Deportivo, reports that Atletico Madrid has held talks with Manchester United as they intensify their pursuit of Greenwood.
Previously, Barcelona, Valencia, and Real Sociedad were also linked with a move for Greenwood. Reports suggest that Barcelona is even willing to offer Greenwood Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 shirt to convince him to join the club. The Spanish champions have been scouting Greenwood during his loan spell at Getafe, with a potential £40 million approach on the horizon.
Greenwood’s contributions have been vital for Getafe, helping the team to eighth place in the table after 18 matches, just five points away from the European places.
Manager Jose Bordalas praised Mason Greenwood this week, offering his explanation for doing so:
“Greenwood is a different player, with a lot of talent but in this football talent is not the main thing. It takes more work than talent.”
