Barcelona contacted Arsenal midfielder over January move

Barcelona had openly expressed their desire to bolster their midfield during the January transfer window, hoping to replicate the impact of Edgar Davids’ arrival in 2004.

However, with less than 72 hours left in the window, it seems they have missed their chance.

Following Gavi’s injury and the failure to receive the expected funds from Libero, Barcelona opted to sign Vitor Roque instead of a midfielder.

While they remain vigilant for any last-minute opportunities, their financial constraints may prevent them from making further signings.

One of their targets was reportedly Arsenal’s experienced midfielder, Jorginho. The Italo-Brazilian is set to become a free agent in the summer, and Barcelona reached out to him, as per Sport.

However, any potential deal would have required Jorginho to terminate his contract with Arsenal and join on a free transfer, similar to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move two years ago.

Considering Barcelona’s current squad limitations and the less pressing nature of the Jorginho situation compared to Aubameyang’s, the Catalan club couldn’t push through a deal.

Given their financial challenges, it wouldn’t be surprising if they revisit the possibility of signing Jorginho if he remains available in the summer.
