Belgium 1-0 Portugal Highlights

GOAL! Hazard stunner opens scoring, 1-0 Belgium (Video)

Full-time: Belgium 1-0 Portugal

Portugal’s defence of their European crown came to an abrupt end in Seville on Sunday night as Thorgan Hazard’s superb strike put Belgium into the quarter-finals.

Hazard’s effort shortly before half-time proved the only goal of the game in what was laregly a cagey affair between two of the tournament favourites.

Left-back Raphael Guerreiro came closest to finding a leveller for Portugal as he struck the post, with Ruben Dias and substitute Andre Silva both denied by Thibaut Courtois in the Belgian goal.

Victory came at a price for the Belgians, however, as they lost key men Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne to injuries, with both players having only recently returned from layoffs.

Before Match

Belgium and Portugal go head to head in a huge heavyweight showdown in the last 16 at Euro 2020 tonight.

The world’s top-ranked side looked worthy of that title during a perfect group stage run, with Romelu Lukaku in fine fettle with three goals.

The Portuguese – defending their title won in France five years ago – have looked equally potent in attack, with Cristiano Ronaldo boasting five goals and an assist after three games, but worrisome at the back.

Belgium vs Portugal team news

Kevin De Bruyne looks back up to full fitness after playing plenty of minutes since the tournament started, and should also be joined by Axel Witsel in midfield.

Thomas Meunier will hope to keep his place, while Thorgan Hazard is fit again.

Renato Sanches was one of the best performers against France and should retain his starting spot for Portugal, though William Carvalho is also pushing.

Ronaldo will be looking to score his 110th senior international goal tonight, the most by any player in history.

Possibel lineups

Belgium XI: Courtois; Alderweireld, Denayer, Vertonghen; Meunier, Tielemans, Witsel, T. Hazard; Mertens, Lukaku, E. Hazard

Portugal XI: Rui Patrício; Semedo, Dias, Pepe, Guerreiro; Palhinha, Sanches, Moutinho; Bernardo, Ronaldo, Jota

Belgium vs Portugal prediction

This tie could really go either way, but we should be treated with goals.

Will Belgium take off the shackles? They will be concerned about the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota, but could be wise to do so.
