Celtics Guard Returns Despite Finger Issue
Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday had some fun with his return to the court, embracing a playful celebration by putting his pinky to his lips, mimicking Dr. Evil. After missing four games due to a mallet finger injury, Holiday was back in action on Saturday, helping the Celtics defeat his hometown Lakers at TD Garden.
Despite still wearing a cast on his right pinky, Holiday managed to play through the discomfort. “It was alright,” he said. “I got a couple of shots up, and it felt a little weird. But I’ve been practicing for the past few days, so it was cool. I shot alright.”
Holiday logged 35 minutes in the victory, contributing seven points, five rebounds, and an assist. He made 3-of-6 shots from the field, including one three-pointer on three attempts. Concerns about his shooting due to the finger injury were eased as he connected on multiple jumpers.
His return is a positive sign for the Celtics as they work toward full strength. Holiday has battled injuries throughout the season, including a lingering shoulder issue that sidelined him before the All-Star break. Though he played three games post-break, the finger injury kept him out recently.
Boston is still awaiting the return of Kristaps Porzingis, who missed his fifth consecutive game due to illness. With Holiday back, the Celtics are inching closer to full health, and Saturday’s win over the Lakers was a significant boost.
“This game means a lot to us,” Holiday said. “Obviously, with the history between the Lakers and Celtics, playing in L.A. and getting beaten wasn’t fun. We wanted to take on the challenge, especially at home, in front of our fans and families. It means a lot to get this win.”
