Ronald Acuña Jr. on the Mend Braves Superstar Eyes Full Recovery After ACL Surgery
After suffering a major injury last May, Ronald Acuña Jr. is closing in on a full recovery just in time for the 2025 season. The Atlanta Braves’ star outfielder and reigning 2023 National League MVP provided an encouraging update, stating that his left knee is now about 90-95% healed following ACL surgery.
Acuña sustained the injury on May 26, 2024, during a stolen-base attempt against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He underwent surgery on June 4, performed by esteemed Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache, beginning an extensive rehabilitation process. Having previously torn his right ACL in 2021—forcing him to miss the Braves’ World Series run—Acuña is no stranger to the recovery process. However, this time around, he feels a greater sense of stability in his knee.
“Compared to my previous experience, I feel much more stable,” Acuña shared. “I’m just working to get back to my best.”
With the Braves setting their sights on another championship push in 2025, getting Acuña back at full strength is a top priority. General manager Alex Anthopoulos emphasized his importance to the team, stating, “Having him back is going to be huge for us.”
Acuña’s 2023 MVP campaign was nothing short of historic, as he hit .337 with 41 home runs, 106 RBIs, and an MLB-leading 73 stolen bases. A fully recovered Acuña could be a game-changer for Atlanta as they look to defend their NL East title and contend for another deep playoff run.
