Barcelona Sporting Director Deco emphasized after the transfer window that he was determined not to offload some of the club’s top talents.
Despite Barcelona’s struggles in recent years to move players, their star performers continue to attract interest from other clubs looking for potential bargains. One such player is Jules Kounde.
Kounde has been playing as a right-back for Barcelona over the past year due to a shortage of alternatives in that position. While he has expressed his contentment in Catalonia, rumors surfaced last summer suggesting he might be open to a move.
According to TBR Football, Kounde remains on Chelsea’s shortlist as they seek to strengthen their defense. The London club is also eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong for the same role.
The report indicates that Chelsea would need to spend around €60 million to secure Kounde’s services.
However, they are also considering younger alternatives, aligning with their transfer strategy. Other potential targets include Freiburg’s Kiliann Sildillia, Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode, and Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda.
Given the range of profiles Chelsea is exploring, Barcelona is unlikely to be too concerned about an imminent bid for Kounde.
The 25-year-old defender still has three years left on his contract, and Barcelona is expected to consider renewing his deal next summer. Chelsea had previously pursued Kounde before his move to Barcelona in 2022, but he ultimately chose to continue his career in Spain.
