According to talkSPORT, Chelsea legend Cesar Azpilicueta will complete his move to Atletico Madrid today.
As a goodwill gesture, the Blues have agreed to terminate the final year of the Spaniard’s contract.
After spending 11 successful years at Stamford Bridge, Azpilicueta will leave as one of the most decorated players in Chelsea’s history.
Having joined Chelsea from Marseille for a modest fee of £7 million in 2011, Azpilicueta quickly became a fan favorite, earning the affectionate nickname ‘Dave’ from the supporters.
He established himself as a regular starter under Jose Mourinho and played a crucial role in Chelsea’s title-winning campaigns under Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
During his time at Chelsea, Azpilicueta won every major domestic trophy, including the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League.
He was appointed club captain in 2019 and led Chelsea to their second Champions League triumph in 2021.
Additionally, by winning the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, Azpilicueta became the first and only player in Chelsea’s history to have won every major domestic trophy.
His departure marks the end of an era at Chelsea and leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the club’s most respected and successful players.
