However, according to Manchester Evening News, Barcelona have offered the forward a new long-term contract on a significantly reduced wage following to the financial troubles exacerbated due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The report suggests the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to decide on his future, with his agent believed to be already on the lookout for new clubs in the order to explore his options.
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be in the pole position to secure his services given the enormous financial outlay it would take to sign Messi, even without a transfer fee.
