According to Mirror, the Serie A champions are reportedly looking to trim their wage bill and Ronaldo is the club’s highest-earner bringing home a staggering Β£28million each year – five times more than Paulo Dybala.

Despite being 35 years old, Manchester United may look to offer the Portuguese, who represented the club from 2003 to 2009, the opportunity to ply his trade for them once more.

Ronaldo has routinely been linked with a return to Man United.

Speaking about his former club, Ronaldo said: “I love Manchester. Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart.

“The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of Ronaldo, and would apparently relish the idea of being able to call upon his former team-mate.

But it was in 2014 that he perhaps dropped the biggest hint to date that he would one day love to play for the Red Devils again.
