Reports from Iran suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo may potentially face a severe punishment of ’99 lashes for adultery’ during his next visit to the country.
This situation has arisen due to a photo in which he interacted with an Iranian painter named Fatima Hamimi during his visit to Tehran in September.
Ronaldo, who is in a relationship with Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, was in Iran with Al-Nassr to participate in the Asian Champions League.
He met Hamimi, who created a special painting for him, and during their interaction, he kissed her on the cheek, gave her a signed shirt, and posed for a photo hugging her.
This seemingly innocent gesture has led to the outrage of Iranian lawyers because, in Iranian law, physical contact with a woman is considered equivalent to adultery.
The Iranian justice system has reportedly acted swiftly, issuing a sentence of 99 lashes for Ronaldo the next time he enters Iran.
Although Ronaldo’s return to Iran during this phase of the competition is uncertain, if his team advances to the knockout rounds, he might be compelled to visit Iran again. In that event, there’s a possibility of his arrest by Iranian authorities to serve the sentence.
However, it’s worth noting that, as reported by Marca, a judge in Iran could potentially forgive the sentence if it’s deemed that Ronaldo’s actions are not punishable or if he shows remorse.
