FK Dembava signs 23 Nigerian Footballers in historic move

Lithuanian football club FK Dembava has reportedly made a landmark decision by signing 23 Nigerian footballers to compete in the Lithuania II Lyga.

According to TheAthletic, This unprecedented move, facilitated by Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), signifies a major milestone in the careers of these young athletes.

The newly signed players, consisting of eight women and 15 men, officially inked their contracts during a ceremony held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Apostle Chinyere highlighted that this event marks the culmination of the first-ever church-sponsored international football scouting exercise, aimed at providing a European platform for talented Nigerian footballers.

Over two weeks, European club owners and decision-makers conducted trials in Nigeria, leading to the selection of these promising players.

The scouted footballers will now compete in both the men’s and women’s leagues in Lithuania, a Schengen country, offering them significant international exposure.

Chinyere emphasized the meticulous planning behind the contract signing ceremony, which included the presence of club officials, the players’ lawyers, and their relatives.

This ensured that the players secured direct contracts, eliminating the uncertainties typically associated with trials in Europe.

The players are provided with visas, flight tickets, and free accommodations, allowing them to focus solely on their football careers upon arrival in Lithuania.

This historic signing not only offers a platform for Nigerian footballers to showcase their skills but also brings pride to Nigerian football fans.

The mass signing of 23 players at once underscores the immense talent and potential of Nigerian footballers and reflects FK Dembava’s commitment to developing young talent.

Moreover, this move is a significant step forward for Nigerian football, offering players valuable international experience and exposure. The inclusion of female players in this deal is particularly noteworthy, highlighting the rising prominence of women’s football in Nigeria.

FK Dembava’s decision to sign Nigerian players demonstrates a strong vote of confidence in the country’s football talent and acknowledges the potential of Nigerian players to excel in European leagues. The club’s dedication to nurturing young players is commendable, and this historic agreement is expected to open doors for more Nigerian footballers to secure international contracts in the future.

Gusau highlighted the critical need for skilled professionals to manage the VAR system, stressing that the NFF is committed to ensuring that only qualified and well-trained personnel operate the technology.

Official: Osimhen seals Galatasaray loan after being exiled by Napoli

Osimhen to Gala

Victor Osimhen has completed a one-season loan move to Galatasaray after being sidelined from Napoli’s Serie A squad.

Napoli’s director, Giovanni Manna, confirmed last month that Osimhen requested a transfer from the club, which he played a key role in leading to a Scudetto victory in the 2022-23 season.

Osimhen had been linked with Chelsea and Al-Ahli, but negotiations stalled due to Chelsea’s reluctance to meet his wage demands and his own hesitation to move to Saudi Arabia.

Initially, it seemed Osimhen might have to remain inactive for four months before seeking a new opportunity, but Galatasaray stepped in just before the Turkish Super Lig transfer window closed on September 13.

The Istanbul club will cover Osimhen’s entire salary, and the loan agreement includes a break clause in January.

In their announcement, Galatasaray confirmed that no loan fee would be paid for Osimhen, who will earn a salary of €6 million.

Napoli has also reportedly agreed with Osimhen to lower his release clause from €130 million to €80 million, paving the way for a future transfer.

Additionally, Napoli has secured an option to extend Osimhen’s contract, which currently runs until 2026, by an additional 12 months to protect his market value if a sale cannot be arranged next year.

Since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has scored 65 league goals, placing him 12th on the club’s all-time Serie A scoring list. Despite an injury-plagued 2023-24 season, he managed to net 15 times, following a 26-goal performance that helped Napoli claim their first Serie A title since the Diego Maradona era.
