Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign has been underwhelming, leaving the Black Stars at risk of an early elimination from the competition after collecting just one point from two games.
Following a surprising 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde in their opening match, Chris Hughton’s team managed only a 2-2 draw against Egypt on Thursday, January 18.
Despite Mohammed Kudus scoring twice, Ghana couldn’t secure the much-needed victory as Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed found the net to equalize for Egypt.
The draw against Egypt extends Ghana’s winless streak in the AFCON to six games, marking the longest period without a victory for the four-time African champions in the tournament.
In their final group stage game, Ghana will face Mozambique, and Hughton’s side must secure a win to keep their AFCON hopes alive. Anything less than a victory would see them exit the competition.
