Victor Osimhen finds himself among the elite, nominated alongside football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the prestigious Best Men’s Player prize at the Global Soccer Awards.
Osimhen’s nomination stems from his exceptional performances both at Napoli, where he played a pivotal role in securing their first Serie A title in over three decades, and for Nigeria’s national team.
His 26 goals in the league contributed significantly to Napoli’s triumph, earning him the Capocannoniere Award.
Additionally, his impressive six-goal tally in the UEFA Champions League bolstered Napoli’s campaign, despite their exit in the quarter-finals.
On the international stage, Osimhen’s prowess shone brightly as he emerged as the top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, netting an impressive ten goals.
This nomination marks another accolade for the 24-year-old, following his eighth-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings and previous nominations for the Best Men’s Player by FIFA and CAF.
However, Osimhen faces stiff competition in this year’s Global Soccer Awards, contending with a star-studded list featuring football luminaries like Messi, Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and many other top talents. Ronaldo, a six-time winner, holds the most victories in this category, while Benzema is the current title holder.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Dubai on January 19, 2024, where the football world awaits the crowning of the Best Men’s Player among these exceptional athletes.
