Barcelona secured their seventh consecutive La Liga victory on Wednesday, defeating Getafe in a hard-fought match.
Despite not being at their best, the win allowed the Catalans to maintain a four-point lead at the top of the table.
In his post-match reaction (via Diario AS), Barcelona coach Hansi Flick acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter at the Estadi Olimpic, citing Getafe’s strong defensive setup.
“I’ve been told this is normal against Getafe—they’re a solid defensive team. The squad battled for 95 minutes, and I’m proud of them for fighting until the end,” Flick said. “I’m also proud of the fans. They recognized we needed their support today.”
Flick praised Getafe’s defense, noting their compact structure and how it limited Barcelona’s speed in attack. “It wasn’t easy. We didn’t always have the pace we needed, but in the end, we got the crucial goal to secure the three points,” he added.
Flick was also asked about the expected arrival of Wojciech Szczesny, who is set to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Although he didn’t comment directly on the transfer, he hinted at the reasoning behind it.
“I only focus on the players I currently have. Inaki Pena is our number one goalkeeper, and we’re very happy with him. That’s all I can say for now,” Flick stated.
He explained that while Inaki is 25, the rest of the goalkeeping options are relatively inexperienced. “We need more experience, which is why the conversation around this has come up. We’ve discussed it internally, and we’ll make a decision soon,” Flick concluded.
