In the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) 2021 season will be the 50th period of the first class and its 31st since rebranding.
The 2019/20 season was suspended after only 25 matchdays in March 2020 and was authoritatively dropped in July 2020 because of the flare-up of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because of that, there was no advancement to or transfer from the NPFL, while the main three teams (Plateau United, Enyimba, and Rivers United) will stand for the country in the CAF Champions League and Confederation League. They will be joined by Kano Pillars — who are the guarding champions of the Aiteo Cup.
The 2020/21 NPFL season commenced on the 27th of December 2020, nine months (285 days) since the last game in the top flight was played.
How much will the NPFL winner will collect?
The Chairman of League Management Company (LMC), Mallam Shehu Dikko has confirmed that the winners of the 2020-2021 Nigeria professional football league season will smile home with a cash prize.
The 2020/21 NPFL winner will receive ₦75 million, while the runners-up will receive ₦50 million, and the 3rd-placed team will get ₦35 million. The other teams will receive payment based on their positions on the league table.
