Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he would rather have “a hole in the squad than an a*******” after ridding his team of “bad apples”.

The United boss is plotting his next move in the transfer market, with both Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish high on his list of targets ahead of the summer window.

United have had to redraw their transfer plans in response to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and are now reluctant to pay fees above £60-70m in the coming months.

That could mean they are forced to look elsewhere for value for money, with James Maddison, Jude Bellingham and a striker also on Solskjaer’s wanted list.

The United boss, who offloaded Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez six months after his arrival, has offered an insight into the squad he discovered upon arrival at Old Trafford in late 2018, and how it will inform his decision-making going forward.
