Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has suffered a concerning injury while on international duty with Norway, just days before the highly anticipated north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. The Norwegian national team’s doctor has provided an update on the situation.
During Norway’s match, Odegaard went in for a challenge and twisted his ankle, falling to the ground in visible pain. The former Real Madrid player was unable to continue and limped off the pitch, raising concerns about his availability for Arsenal’s crucial fixture against Spurs this weekend.
Arsenal fans are understandably anxious, as it remains unclear whether Odegaard will recover in time for the derby. However, early indications suggest the injury may be significant.
Norway’s national team manager, Stale Solbakken, spoke to the Norwegian outlet VG about Odegaard’s condition, stating, “It looked bad in the dressing room too. He didn’t have the strength to continue. I doubt Arteta will call me tonight and thank me.”
Norway’s doctor, Ola Sand, confirmed they have already been in touch with Arsenal’s medical team and plan to assess Odegaard’s injury further when the team returns to the hotel.
Odegaard’s absence would be a major blow for Arsenal, not only due to his creative influence on the pitch but also his leadership as team captain. With the north London derby looming, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be eager for Odegaard to return to England and regain fitness.
Adding to Arsenal’s concerns, midfielder Declan Rice is already suspended for the derby following a red card in their previous match against Brighton.
Losing two key players in midfield ahead of such a crucial fixture could pose significant challenges for Arteta’s side.
In response, players like Jorginho and Kai Havertz may be called upon to fill the gaps, although summer signing Mikel Merino is also sidelined with an injury.
As Arsenal brace for the upcoming derby, the fitness of Odegaard will be closely monitored, with fans hoping for a swift recovery.
