Cote d’Ivoire got off to a strong start in the AFCON 2023 with a convincing victory over Guinea-Bissau, thanks to goals from Seko Fofana and Jean-Philipe Krasso.
The match, played at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, saw the Ivorians dominate early on. Fofana opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, setting the tone for his team’s attacking display.
Despite Guinea-Bissau’s resilience, Cote d’Ivoire continued to press forward. Fofana came close to adding a second goal before halftime, narrowly missing with a powerful effort that struck the post.
In the second half, Cote d’Ivoire maintained their momentum, and their persistence paid off when Krasso capitalized on a defensive error to secure a 2-0 victory with a well-placed finish.
The win puts Cote d’Ivoire at the top of Group A, which also includes Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, giving them a strong start to their campaign as they aim for a third AFCON title on home soil.
