Mourinho has broken his silence since his dismissal as AS Roma manager on Tuesday morning.
The ‘Special One’ was relieved of his duties as The Giallorossi boss with AS Roma sitting in ninth place in the Serie A table.
Initially, Mourinho’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but Roma decided to part ways with him following the team’s 3-1 loss to AC Milan at San Siro on Sunday night.
AS Roma confirmed Mourinho’s departure in a statement released on their social media pages and official website.
The statement read: “
AS Roma can confirm that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect.
“Mourinho was unveiled as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021. He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season.
“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
Following the decision, Mourinho took to his Instagram page to share his reaction. The Portuguese tactician released a succinct ten-word statement that read: “Sweat, blood, tears, joy, sadness, love, brothers, history, heart, eternity.”
Additionally, he posted a video reel highlighting the highs and lows of his tenure at the club.
Mourinho was visibly emotional as he left Roma’s training base, Trigoria, for the last time. The former Real Madrid manager was almost brought to tears as Roma fans chanted his name while attempting to take a selfie with him.
These emotions are understandable given Mourinho’s previous remarks about the deep emotional connection he has developed with Roma, a sentiment he has not experienced to the same extent with any of the clubs he has managed in the past.
