Joseph Parker stuns Deontay Wilder in heavyweight upset

In a stunning upset in Riyadh, Joseph Parker emerged victorious over Deontay Wilder in a heavyweight clash, securing a unanimous decision after 12 hard-fought rounds.

Both fighters entered the ring as former heavyweight champions, with Parker previously holding the WBO belt and Wilder being a dominant WBC titlist until his defeat to Tyson Fury.

Wilder, known for his formidable punching power, had been eyeing a showdown with Anthony Joshua and was expected to use the fight against Parker as a tune-up. However, Parker had other plans, completely derailing Wilder’s ambitions with a convincing win. The judges scored the fight 118-111, 118-110, and 120-108 in favor of Parker.

Throughout the match, Wilder displayed patience, perhaps mindful of his limited action in 2022, having only fought one round when he knocked out Robert Helenius. Meanwhile, Parker remained aggressive, landing significant blows, including a strong left hook early in the third round that showcased his determination and skill.
