The Kansas City Chiefs have recently made significant roster adjustments, including the release of several key players.

In August 2024, the Chiefs released wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross, as well as running back Louis Rees-Zammit, among others, as part of their preseason roster cuts. Toney, notable for his performance in Super Bowl LVII, saw a decline in production in 2023 and was ultimately left off the Super Bowl LVIII active roster. Ross, who had a limited role in the 2023 season, and Rees-Zammit, a rugby star signed through the NFL’s International Player Pathway program, were also waived.

More recently, the Chiefs released running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Edwards-Helaire contributed 1,845 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns during his tenure. Off the field, he was recognized for his heroism during the parade shooting at Union Station, where he protected a teenager. Edwards-Helaire had been open about his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder and did not play during the 2024 regular season.

These roster changes reflect the Chiefs’ ongoing efforts to manage their lineup and address various factors, including player performance, health, and team strategy.
