Yankees Predicted To Cut Ties With $37 Million Pitcher Sooner Rather Than Later
The New York Yankees have had a strong offseason despite the loss of superstar Juan Soto in free agency. They’ve brought in several talented players, which has left some current roster members facing uncertain futures ahead of the 2025 season. One such player is pitcher Marcus Stroman.
Joseph Kallan of FanSided recently predicted that the Yankees will move on from Stroman before manager Aaron Boone’s new contract extension runs its course. “Stroman might seem like the most obvious choice here, as there’s no guarantee he’ll even pitch in a Yankees uniform by the time the 2025 season begins,” Kallan wrote. The veteran right-hander wants to stay in the starting rotation, but Boone and the Yankees’ coaching staff have not fully embraced that idea.
With spring training serving as one of his last opportunities to prove himself as a starter, Stroman’s future with the Yankees remains in question. If he doesn’t fit into their plans, his name could quickly emerge in trade rumors.
Stroman was already left off last season’s World Series roster, and the Yankees have since strengthened their pitching staff by adding left-hander Max Fried. They also have promising prospects like Brock Selvidge and Will Warren waiting in the wings. Given these circumstances, it’s difficult to see Stroman making the final roster after spring training. A trade or release seems inevitable.
