Lakers Drop Concerning Luka Doncic Update Amid LeBron James’ Injury

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without LeBron James for one to two weeks after the NBA’s all-time leading scorer sustained a groin injury in Saturday’s tough loss to the Boston Celtics. Not only did the defending champions put an end to L.A.’s eight-game winning streak with a 111-101 victory at TD Garden, but James’ extended absence is an added blow to the Lakers. Unfortunately for L.A. fans, the bad news doesn’t stop there.

Luka Doncic, expected to take on a bigger role in James’ absence, is now dealing with a new setback of his own. According to the Lakers’ injury report for Monday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, Doncic is listed as questionable due to a sore back, putting his availability in doubt.

James’ injury presents an opportunity for Doncic to lead the team, but his back issue could hinder his performance even if he plays through it. Additionally, the 26-year-old guard has been managing calf, hip, and knee concerns over the past week, making it clear that he is not at full strength. Regardless, the Lakers will be counting on him in the coming weeks—assuming he is fit to play.

Jaxson Hayes is also questionable for Monday’s game, while Rui Hachimura, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Maxi Kleber have already been ruled out.
