Man Utd legend hints Cristiano Ronaldo could make bombshell Old Trafford return

A former Manchester United teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at a potential return of the legendary striker to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo’s second stint at United ended on a sour note, with his contract terminated following a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan. Despite the fallout, the Portuguese star, now playing for Al-Nassr, continues to score goals as he approaches the age of 40.

Recently, the 39-year-old admitted in an interview with Rio Ferdinand that he still has a deep love for Manchester United. However, considering the controversial nature of his 2022 exit and his ongoing feud with current manager Erik ten Hag, a return to the Theatre of Dreams seems improbable.

Despite the obstacles, former United defender Wes Brown has suggested that Ronaldo might make a comeback to Manchester in some capacity to reconcile how things ended. Speaking to BoyleSports, Brown expressed his belief that a final swansong for Ronaldo at United could still be possible.

“When it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United in some capacity, you can never say never,” Brown stated. “Obviously, when he left the second time, we were all disappointed because he had been one of United’s best-ever players. It was disappointing how it ended, and I think he could return to try and make amends for that sour ending. Even in his first season back at the club, he scored over 20 goals. I think the exit was a bit over the top, but for him to come back in some way? I’d love it.”

In recent weeks, Ronaldo has been vocal about his concerns regarding Manchester United’s current state. He remarked that the club needs to “rebuild everything” and criticized manager Erik ten Hag for what he perceived as a lack of a winning mentality.

Speaking on the “Rio Ferdinand Presents” podcast, Ronaldo said, “As I told you, Manchester, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion.

The coach says they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League. As Manchester United’s coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the league or Champions League. You have to mentally say, ‘Listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.'”

While a Ronaldo return might seem far-fetched given the current circumstances, Wes Brown’s comments leave room for speculation. For many fans, seeing Ronaldo back at Old Trafford, even in a different role, could be a chance to make amends for his tumultuous departure.
