Manchester United fans had shown love and believe for United’s youngster despite Amad Diallo came on in the 83rd minute to show what he could do.
For a moment it looked like he was going to score. Dan James raced down the right-hand side and if he crossed the ball, Diallo would just have had a tap-in. Instead James shot into the back of the net.
Diallo had seven touches in total, and three successful dribbles. Only Scott McTominay (4) had more take-ons. This alone showed what Diallo is all about. He’s brave on the ball and wants to make things happen.
A 4-0 advantage to take back to Old Trafford is the perfect scenario. It enables United to rotate next week. Diallo could be one of the beneficiaries.
Diallo very briefly gave United supporters what we wanted to see, a glimpse of his potential.
In two full games for the under-23s he has three goals and three assists, showing he is ready for the step up. It’s here now.
Shola Shoretire, an unused substitute, has a chance to make his debut in the next game, at least from the bench.
