Mason Greenwood begins early pre-season training on Plastic Pitch amid uncertainty over future (PICS)

Mason Greenwood has kicked off his pre-season training ahead of schedule on a £100-an-hour plastic pitch.

The Manchester United striker was spotted in action under the keen supervision of his agent father, alongside former United teammate Shola Shoretire, in Manchester on Friday.

Greenwood, donning a Jamaica national team shirt, remains in limbo about his playing destination for the upcoming season.

After returning to Old Trafford from a loan stint at Getafe in La Liga, where he impressively netted ten goals and provided six assists in 36 appearances, winning Player of the Year, his future hangs in the balance.

Getafe’s president, Angel Torres, has expressed a strong desire to have Greenwood back at Estadio Coliseum.

In a recent interview with Radio Marca, Torres stated, “If it depends on the boy and the parents, he will continue another year. The latest news from Manchester suggests that if a good offer comes, they would prefer to sell because he is not going to return there.

“We might have to wait until the end of June, but it’s clear the family is happy here, and he has given a great performance. I think he’s going to stay, maybe for another year or at least until January. Starting fresh could be spectacular.”

Despite Getafe’s enthusiasm, their financial limitations may pose a challenge in securing Greenwood’s return. Meanwhile, other European clubs, including Marseille and Lazio, have shown interest in signing the player, with United setting a price tag of around £34 million for the academy graduate.

Greenwood, 22, is unlikely to rejoin his Manchester United teammates, such as Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, who are scheduled to report back at Carrington for pre-season training on Monday.

The uncertainty around Greenwood’s future stems from past legal issues. He was arrested in January 2022 following allegations of attempted rape and assault, but charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) last year.

An internal review by Manchester United subsequently concluded that Greenwood would not continue his career at Old Trafford.

Interestingly, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new minority owner, hinted earlier this season at a potential reconsideration of Greenwood’s future with the club, emphasizing the need for a “fresh decision.”

Currently, Greenwood remains on United’s retained players list, with his contract at Old Trafford running until 2025 and an option for a one-year extension.
