NBA Makes Historic Kevin Durant Announcement Following Suns-Cavaliers

In his 17th NBA season, Kevin Durant continues to showcase his elite scoring ability. The 36-year-old forward led the Phoenix Suns to a 123-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night, tallying 42 points and handing Cleveland its fourth consecutive loss. With this win, the Suns extended their winning streak to three games and currently hold the 10th seed in the Western Conference. Durant’s stellar performances remain a key factor in the Suns’ playoff push.

Durant had an impressive shooting night, converting 17 of 29 field goal attempts while also contributing eight assists, six rebounds, and a block. By making 17 field goals, he surpassed Kevin Garnett to claim the 13th spot on the NBA’s all-time field goals made list, now standing at 10,506.

This marks Durant’s second 40-point game of the season, having previously scored 43 points against the Detroit Pistons on December 21. Additionally, he etched his name in history by becoming just the fourth player to record multiple 40-point games in his 17th season or later—joining the elite company of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (per @StatMamba on X).

Durant is now just 12 made field goals away from surpassing John Havlicek for 12th place on the all-time list, a milestone he could reach before the season ends. The Suns have 11 regular-season games remaining, with their next contest against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. So far this season, Durant is averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. He also ranks eighth in NBA history for total points scored, currently at 30,469.
