Gift Orban is poised to increase the Nigerian presence in the French Ligue 1, with Lyon reportedly nearing a deal for the Gent striker.

Olympique Lyon, a Ligue 1 team, is on the verge of acquiring Nigerian forward Gift Orban from Belgian club KAA Gent.

According to reports from Pulse Sports, Orban, who was not selected by Nigeria Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro for AFCON2023, is expected to make the move from Belgium to France this January.

Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the 21-year-old will soon be an Olympique Lyon player.

“Olympique Lyon is set to sign Gift Orban, as the deal is being finalized,” Romano mentioned in a post on X. “It’s a fantastic signing for OL, with the final details being sorted out in the next few hours,” he added.

Orban, who was nominated for the CAF Young Player of the Year award in 2023, has been in high demand since joining Jupiler side Gent in January 2023.

He made an immediate impact, scoring 27 goals and providing two assists in 38 appearances during his first six months, helping Gent secure a place in UEFA competitions.

Before his move to Gent, Orban played for Norwegian club Stabæk, where he scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 24 appearances.
