Hansi Flick is set to become the next coach of FC Barcelona, following a successful meeting in London between the club’s representatives and Flick’s agent, Pini Zahivi.
Despite initial denials, a meeting did take place and resulted in an agreement in principle for Flick to lead Barcelona for the next two seasons, as reported by ‘El Chiringuito’ and confirmed by AS.
The club now needs to address the contract situation of current coach Xavi Hernandez and his staff.
No official communication has been made to Xavi yet, but it is expected that his dismissal will be explained to him in a meeting with the Sports Commission, led by Deco, after the match against Sevilla on Sunday.
This decision will then be endorsed by the Board of Directors on Thursday.
The key issue now is whether there will be an economic settlement for Xavi’s departure. It is reported that Xavi is willing to forego a significant portion of his remaining contract year if the club commits to fulfilling the contracts of his assistants.
However, Xavi had previously stated his willingness to forego his entire remaining contract when he announced his deferred resignation in January.
Xavi’s current situation is delicate, with no official news from the club, mounting external pressure, and speculation about Flick’s appointment.
Despite this, Xavi must focus on preparing the team for the match against Sevilla and handling press conferences amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.
