Spain wins Nations League final after penalty shootout with Croatia

Croatia, led by their star player Luka Modric, were denied a fairytale trophy as they suffered a heartbreaking loss to Spain in the UEFA Nations League final, decided by a tense penalty shootout.

After a grueling 120 minutes of play in which neither team could find a breakthrough, it all came down to the spot-kicks.

Unai Simon emerged as the hero for Spain, making crucial saves against Lovro Majer and Bruno Petkovic.

With the opportunity to seal the victory, Dani Carvajal calmly converted a panenka penalty after Aymeric Laporte’s earlier attempt had struck the crossbar.
