Trent Alexander-Arnold is not pursuing the purchase of French club Nantes, despite rumors of a €100 million bid.
Recent reports from France claimed that the Liverpool defender was part of a group attempting to acquire the Ligue 1 side. It was alleged that Alexander-Arnold, 25, was leading the charge alongside his father in a bid to buy the club from Polish businessman Waldemar Kita.
The supposed offer was said to include an €80 million upfront payment, a €20 million seller credit, and potential bonuses totaling around €40 million.
Additionally, rumors circulated that Alexander-Arnold had also expressed interest in buying other French clubs, including Saint-Etienne and Le Havre.
However, these claims appear to be unfounded. According to the Liverpool Echo, sources close to Alexander-Arnold have confirmed that the reports are “not true at all,” dismissing any suggestion that the player is preparing to purchase Nantes.
While Alexander-Arnold may not be involved, the future of Nantes could still see change. Club president Waldemar Kita has been open to offers since 2022.
However, Kita remains skeptical about potential buyers, including the club’s former goalkeeper Mickael Landreau.
Speaking to RMC, Kita expressed doubts about the seriousness of Landreau’s interest, stating: “I am open to all propositions, but it has to be serious. You can’t buy or sell the club through the media. Some things have gone too far.”
Kita recalled an incident seven years ago when Landreau allegedly sought to be the delegate president of the club, a request Kita declined. “Fifteen days later, he became the manager of Lorient. This isn’t serious,” he added.
Despite the ownership speculation, Nantes are performing well in Ligue 1, sitting fifth after two wins from their first four matches. They face Angers in an away fixture this weekend.
Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the right-back could leave the club for free next summer.
Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid is reportedly interested in signing him, along with other Premier League stars like Rodri, William Saliba, and Cristian Romero, as part of their ambitious recruitment plans.
