During the Champions League group-stage draw ceremony, UEFA revealed the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year awards.

Pep Guardiola, at the helm of Manchester City, entered the draw as the reigning champions after securing his third triumph in Europe’s premier club competition. His success in Istanbul, following victories in the Premier League and FA Cup, earned Guardiola his first-ever Coach of the Year award. This award has been presented in its current form for the past three seasons.

Simone Inzaghi, leading Inter Milan, was also a contender for the men’s coaching accolade, alongside Luciano Spalletti. Inzaghi’s Inter Milan faced an unfortunate defeat in Istanbul, where Rodri‘s solitary goal led to Manchester City’s victory.

Sarina Wiegman, the coach of the England women’s team, retained her title in the women’s category. Despite England’s loss in the World Cup final against Spain, led by Jorge Vilda, Wiegman’s achievements were still recognized.

Barcelona’s dominance in women’s football was further highlighted, with their triumph in Liga F, securing 28 wins out of 30 matches. Jonatan Giraldez, the coach of Barcelona’s women’s team, completed the trio of nominees after orchestrating a remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2 in the Champions League final.

Real Madrid‘s combined squad salary bill is currently €485 million, while La Liga’s wage limit for the club will be €727 million for the next season, according to COPE.

This surplus in the wage limit provides Real Madrid with the opportunity to spend significantly in the upcoming summer transfer window without the need to sell players.

The €242 million difference between the limit and the actual wage spending opens up possibilities for big signings, including players like Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe.

While this surplus doesn’t guarantee that Real Madrid won’t sell any players or that specific targets like Davies and Mbappe will be signed, it does give the club financial flexibility to pursue top talent in the transfer market.

Ultimately, the decision on signings will depend on the club’s priorities and needs for the next season.
