Victor Osimhen left out of Napoli squad following failed transfer attempts
Napoli has officially removed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from their Serie A squad list for the 2024-25 season, intensifying the ongoing tension between the star forward and the club.
The No. 9 jersey, once donned by Osimhen, has now been assigned to new signing Romelu Lukaku, signaling a major shift in the team’s lineup.
Osimhen Dropped After Failed Transfer Attempts
Victor Osimhen’s exclusion follows a disappointing end to the transfer window, where anticipated moves to Premier League club Chelsea or Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli failed to materialize.
Although still under contract with Napoli until 2026, Osimhen now faces the possibility of spending the season on the bench.
Osimhen, who earns around €10 million per year at Napoli, was negotiating a lucrative transfer to Al-Ahli, where he would have earned €40 million annually over four years.
However, the deal fell apart when Napoli demanded a higher transfer fee, leading Al-Ahli to shift their focus to England’s Ivan Toney from Brentford instead.
Lukaku In, Osimhen Out as Napoli Finalizes Squad
As Napoli prepares for their upcoming Serie A match against Parma at the Stadio Maradona, Romelu Lukaku is expected to take on a pivotal role, wearing Osimhen’s former No. 9 jersey.
The Belgian striker, who joined Napoli from Chelsea, is set to play a key role in the team’s campaign this season, filling the void left by Osimhen’s absence.
In addition to Osimhen, defender Mario Rui has also been removed from Napoli’s squad list to make room for new signings.
However, Nigerian-Italian midfielder Michael Folorunsho retains his place in the team. Other recent additions, such as Billy Gilmour from Brighton, could feature in upcoming matches, while Scott McTominay is expected to make his debut after the international break.
The decision to exclude Osimhen marks a critical point in the strained relationship between the player and Napoli, casting serious doubt on his future with the club.
As the Serie A season progresses, the spotlight will be on whether Osimhen can find a way back into the team or secure a move elsewhere.

Luis Campos reveals unexpected details about Victor Osimhen’s summer links to PSG
Paris Saint-Germain’s Sporting Director, Luís Campos, has debunked claims that the club made a formal offer for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite widespread rumors.
In an interview with Sport Italia correspondent Tancredi Palmeri, Campos clarified that PSG never placed a bid for the Nigerian forward.
Osimhen had been linked with several top clubs during the 2024 summer transfer window, and PSG was rumored to be among the interested parties.
However, Campos refuted those reports, emphasizing that the French Ligue 1 side did not make a move for the Super Eagles star.
When asked about the alleged last-minute approach from Napoli just before the transfer deadline, Campos simply remarked, “That’s the market,” underscoring the unpredictable nature of transfer dealings.
Victor Osimhen, who was recently honored with the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award in Morocco, also praised his former coach, Emmanuel Amunike, for his guidance throughout his career. Despite being linked to PSG, Osimhen’s future took a different turn.
Ultimately, the Nigerian striker secured a season-long loan move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, with the club covering 70% of his annual salary. Osimhen has already joined his new team and is eager to make an impact in the Turkish Super Lig.
Campos’ revelation may come as a surprise to many, given the heavy speculation surrounding Osimhen’s potential transfer. However, it appears that PSG never made a serious attempt to sign the Nigerian star.
This development further highlights the often unpredictable and fluid nature of transfer negotiations. While the rumor mill pointed to a potential move to Paris, Osimhen is now looking forward to a fresh chapter in Turkey, where he hopes to leave a lasting impression with Galatasaray.

Man City’s hearing for 115 Premier League charges to start on Monday (SEE ALL CHARGES)
The highly anticipated Premier League hearing regarding Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of financial fair play (FFP) regulations is set to commence on Monday, September 16.
Manchester City is accused of violating financial rules over a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018, during which the club twice edged out Liverpool for the Premier League title—in the 2013/14 and 2017/18 seasons.
The club has denied all charges, with manager Pep Guardiola previously expressing confidence in City’s innocence. Now, as reported by Sky Sports, both the Premier League and City’s legal teams will present their cases to an independent panel when the hearing begins.
Given the extensive list of allegations, the hearing is expected to last at least two months. While there is hope that a resolution will be reached by the end of this year, some speculate that the final verdict may not be announced until 2025, allowing the independent commission time to thoroughly review the evidence.
Potential Charges and Consequences
Should Manchester City be found guilty, the club could face severe penalties, including a potential points deduction. In more extreme cases, there is even the possibility of expulsion from the Premier League, though this outcome is considered unlikely. Another point of contention is whether the club could be stripped of the titles it won during the alleged period of rule-breaking.
The charges focus on over 100 alleged violations of financial fair play rules during the nine-year period, as well as City’s failure to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation, which extended from 2018 until February 2023.
If the independent commission rules against Manchester City, the club is expected to appeal the decision, potentially prolonging the process further.
As this high-stakes case unfolds, it’s clear that the road to a final verdict will be anything but straightforward. Football fans will need to stay tuned for further developments.
