When France’s president Emmanuel Macron visited Morocco’s locker room, he gave Sofyan Amrabat high marks.
From Qatar, Macron watched as the defending champions secured their place in the World Cup final for the second time in a row.
Morocco, the tournament’s surprise package, suffered heartbreak when they were defeated 2-0 by France thanks to goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani.
Throughout the tournament, Fiorentina’s Amrabat stood out and was praised by politician Macron.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Macron stated that Amrabat was “the best midfielder of the tournament” in front of the Morocco team.
Morocco will now aim for third place, having become the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final.
One day prior to the main event between France and Argentina, they will face Croatia for bronze.
As the football stars square off, it has been billed as Lionel Messi versus Kylian Mbappe.
