Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to name a strong Manchester United team to face rivals Manchester City in tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
United or City meet Tottenham in the final after Jose Mourinho’s men defeated Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday.
The final has been moved and will now take place in April.
Why United might be set to shock City night (In short)
Man City might have lost just two of their 23 League Cup matches under Pep Guardiola (W17 D4), but both defeats have come versus United (in 2016 and 2020). Guardiola has lost three of his six matches against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (50%), his worst loss percentage against any manager he’s faced at least five times.[men]
- Victor Lindelof should be available following a back injury, though Eric Bailly – who has struggled for fitness during his United career – is excelling in his absence and will likely partner Maguire at the back.
- Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to play in order to track City runners such as Raheem Sterling, while one change could see Alex Telles come in at left-back to give Luke Shaw a breather – particularly given the latter is injury-prone.
- With Edinson Cavani suspended, the only other likely consideration would be whether Mason Greenwood gets a start – but with a lack of forward options on the bench, Solskjaer may save the youngster as an impact substitute.
