Real Madrid is still grappling with the aftermath of the contentious 2-2 draw against Valencia on Saturday evening. Jude Bellingham appeared to have secured a last-minute victory with a goal in the 99th minute.
However, referee Jesus Gil Manzano blew the final whistle just one second before the ball crossed the goal line.
The incident has left Real Madrid feeling aggrieved, with many suggesting that the timing of the referee’s decision was more than just a coincidence.
According to Diario AS, those within the club are “wary of several controversies that have taken place in recent days, detrimental to them, and favourable to Barcelona.
“They believe that this has come about because of the comments made by Xavi Hernandez and Joan Laporta last month, in which they both referred to La Liga as “adulterated”.
Some influential figures within Real Madrid feel they are being singled out to help Barcelona narrow the gap in the title race.
If Barcelona wins against Athletic Club on Sunday, they would close the gap to six points behind their Clasico rivals.
While the frustration of Real Madrid is understandable given the events of Saturday, Gil Manzano technically followed the rules by blowing the full-time whistle when he did.
