The Spanish Super Cup will be played by Barcelona while they are currently in Saudi Arabia. During the pre-semifinal press conference against Real Betis, Xavi was questioned about the significance of the trophy, which is typically regarded as secondary.

“It is a trophy, so it is important to us. It’s a new format and we haven’t won it yet. We are on a good run and we’ll try to show our personality, we want to stay until Sunday in Saudi Arabia and win the final,” the Barcelona coach said.

“If we win it, it will be a boost for us. If we lose, it will be a disappointment.

“I’ve been motivated [to win titles] since my first day here. If we don’t win any titles this season, you [the press] will kill me. Let’s go for it because we haven’t won titles in a little while.”

Xavi has been at Camp Nou for over a year but he is yet to win a trophy.

Barca lost to Real Madrid in the Super Cup semi-finals the previous year.
